Krsna's Mercy

Jaganivas das

Well, once again I'm supposed to offer another article to the Nectar News as unworthy as I am (Editor's Note: Jagani, you are one of the associate editors, don't sound so excited to write an article!). Last week by Srila Prabhupada's mercy, I had many realizations based on Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 1, Chapter 8, texts 28 & 29:

"My Lord, I consider Your Lordship to be eternal time, the supreme controller, without beginning and end, the all-pervasive one. In distributing Your mercy, You are equal to everyone. The dissensions between living beings are due to social intercourse. O Lord, no one can understand Your transcendental pastimes, which appear to be human and are so misleading. You have no specific object of favor, nor do You have any object of envy. People only imagine that You are partial."

Srila Prabhupada explains that Krsna has no object of favor or disfavor, His mercy is up to the entity itself. If you go to God when you want something, when you are in trouble, if you make offenses against the holy name, if you try to serve Krsna with love, or even if you don't go to Him at all, you will receive mercy regardless. Krsna wants us more than we want Him. Take someone on the brink of atheism, for example, who desires material opulence and constant sense gratification. The Lord is so merciful, that He actually gives the means for these desires to be fulfilled. This is true even if the atheist thinks "I" worked so hard to acquire these things, forgetting the real Source of everything. There is even the person who claims to be a good Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc., who then twists the revealed scripture to fit his own sense gratification. And then there are those who are honestly trying to follow the topmost aspect of any religion (service to the Supreme). All souls are recipients of God's mercy.

So just the other day, a person came to my work with a brand new motor- cycle, and everyone ran outside to worship it, forgetting their duties and priorities. It brought to my attention that if the Lord or any of His representatives were to have walked by at that moment, no one would have seen them. Probably not even me, so Krsna's mercy depends on His love and your reciprocation. Thank you Srila Prabhupada for the mercy to have such a great spiritual master, Srila Krsnapada, and for opening my ignorant eyes with the torchlight of knowledge. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All glories to Srila Krsnapada! Cleveland Nama Hatta Ki Jaya! Sri-Sri Vrndavan Candra Ki Jaya!
