Padma Purana -- See PURANAS.
 
Pandavas -
YUDHISTHIRA, Bhima, ARJUNA, Nakula, and Sahadeva: the five warrior-brothers who were intimate friends of Lord KRSNA and who fought to regain their kingdom from the sons of DHRTARASTRA in the Battle of
KURUKSETRA.
 
Panihati
Where is Panihati? Panihati is located on the banks of the Ganges 10 miles North of Calcutta, in West Bengal India. It is the site of many wonderful spiritual pastimes of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and His close personal associates.
 
Para-brahman--
the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is superior to His impersonal aspect of BRAHMAN.
 
Paramahamsas--
(parama - greatest, hamsa - swan) the topmost swanlike class of devotees. a swan is said in the Vedas to possess the unique capability to separate milk from water. In this way the paramahamsa is able to separate the milk of spiritual knowledge from the water of material knowledge. Though used frequently, according to the Vedas it can really only be used in connection with Vaisnavas or pure devotees of the Supreme Lord.
 
Paramatma-
the form of the Supreme Lord who dwells in the heart of and accompanies every living entity as the living entity transmigrates from body to body in the material world.
 
Parampara--
the line of disciplic succession coming from guru to disciple from the beginning of the universe..
 
Para prakriti--Para Sakti
Superior form of energy which creates the spiritual world.
 
Parasara Muni--
the father of VYASADEVA and original narrator of the Visnu PURANA.
 
Para-vyoma--
The variegated spiritual planetary system which comprises the major three-fourths part of the Supreme Lord's creative energy. Also called Vaikunthaloka.
 
Pariksit Maharaja--
a great VEDIC king and devotee of the Lord who heard SRIMAD-BHAGAVATAM from SUKADEVA Gosvami and thus attained perfection.
 
Patanjali--
the author of the original YOGA system.
 
Patita-pavana --
deliverer of the fallen souls.
 
Pitas--
Ancestors; forefathers.
 
Prabhupada
(prabhu - master, pada- at the feet) a person at whose feet many masters sit for instruction. the founder of ISKCON and a disciple of His Divine Grace Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur who was also called Prabhupada.
 
Prajalpa-
unnecessary talking.
 
Prakasananda Sarasvati--
an impersonalist SANNYASI who, after being defeated in scriptural argument by Lord CAITANYA MAHAPRABHU, became a disciple along with his forty thousand followers.
 
Prakrita-sahajyas -
materialistic pseudo devotees people who imitate advanced devotees for fame adoration and distinction.
 
prakrti--
the predominated energies of the Supreme Lord, of which there are two: the living entities, and material nature, or dead matter. See also PURUSA.
 
Pranava-See OMKARA.
 
Prana-vayu--
the subtle airs in the body; also, the movements of these airs.
 
prasadam--
food that is sanctified by being first offered to the Lord for His enjoyment.
 
Pratyahara--
The process of closing all the doors of the senses and fixing the mind on the heart and the life air at the top of the head, thus establishing oneself in yoga.
 
Pratyaksa--
direct evidence.
 
Prayaga--
a pilgrimage site near Allahabad, where the two holy rivers the GANGES and Yamuna flow together.
 
Prayasa--
unnecessary endeavor.
 
Prayascitta-
atonement.
 
prema--
love of God that is free from any selfish motive, matured pure love of Krishna.
 
Puja
act of performing worship to the Supreme Lord by offering arati, foodstuffs, clothing, ornaments, a bath, etc.
 
Pujari
The person who performs the Puja.
 
Pujari Room
The room where all paraphernalia for performing puja is kept.
 
Puranas--
the eighteen texts expounding the teachings of the VEDAS through historical and allegorical narrations.
 
Pure Devotional Service -
Service directed to the Supreme Lord without any materially contaminated desires, for the sole purpose of expressing pure love for Him and for His pleasure only.
 
Puri -- See JAGANNATHA PURI
 
purusha--
the Supreme Lord as the supreme predominator of PRAKRTI.
 
Putana--
a demoniac witch who wanted to kill Lord KRSNA during His childhood pastimes, but who was killed by the Lord.
