Vaidhi bhakti--
following the principles of regulated devotional service by the order of the spiritual master or according to the injunctions of revealed scriptures.
 
Vaikuntha--
the eternal, spiritual world beyond the material cosmos. The name means "the place where there is no anxiety".
 
Vaikunthaloka--
the planets in the spiritual sky, See: Paravyoma
 
Vaisnava--
a devotee of KRSNA, or of any other form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
 
Vaisnava-aparadha-
an offense against a devotee of the Lord.
 
vaishya--
The farmers, mercantile class, or business class the third Vedic social order, See VARNAS.
 
vanaprastha--
The retired ashrama. after the age of 50 one may retire to pursue spiritual advancement alone or with his wife. See ASRAMAS.
 
varnas-
the four social-occupational divisions of vedic society: brahmanas (priests, teachers, and intellectuals), ksatriyas (military men and public administrators), vaishyas (farmers and businessmen), and sudras (laborers and craftsmen). See also VARNASRAMA-DHARMA
 
varna-sankara--
children who are the result of sex not in accordance with Vedic religious principles. Generally unwanted and uncontrolled with very few good qualities. A majority of varna-sankara in society can create a hellish condition for society (as we can see in the world today.)
 
varnashrama-dharma --
the ancient VEDIC system of arranging society into four social-occupational divisions (VARNAS) and four spiritual divisions (ASRAMAS) to promote social, economic, and political well-being and the spiritual advancement of all members of society.
 
Varuna--
the demigod in charge of bodies of water.
 
Vasudeva--
the father of Lord KRSNA.
 
Vaasudeva-
a name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead as the Supreme Lord of all spiritual and material worlds.
 
Vatsalya-rasa-
parental relationship with the Supreme Lord.
 
Veda--
knowledge.
 
Vedanta-sutra (Vedanta) --
VYASADEVA'S summary of the theistic philosophy of the VEDIC LITERATURE, Written in the form of concise codes.
 
Vedas--
the four scriptures RG, Yajur, Sama, and Atharva, and in a broader sense also including the UPANISADS and VEDANTA-SUTRA, .
 
Veda-vada-ratas -
those who give their own explanations of the Vedas.
 
Vedic--
pertaining to a culture in which all aspects of human life are under the guidance of the VEDAS.
 
Vedic literature--
the four VEDAS, the UPANISADS, VEDANTA SUTRA, PURANAS, MAHABHARATA, Other histories and supplements, and also more recent works written in pursuance of the VEDIC conclusion.
 
Vibhuti-bhinnam -
Specific variegated endowment by which each planet has its own atmosphere, making bodily or psychological change necessary for the organism of one planet to adapt to life on another planet.
 
Vidya-
knowledge.
 
Vikarma--
sinful work, performed against scriptural injunctions.
 
Vikarmis--
Fruitive actors who don't follow the Vedic directions.
 
Vikarna-
a warrior who fought against the Pandavas in the Battle of Kuruksetra. A brother of Duryodhana and a son of Dhrtarastra. He actually defended the Pandavas and their wife Draupadi in the gambling match that led to their exile and later to the battle of Kuruksetra. But because of his attachment for his brother and a vow by Bhima, he was killed in the Battle.
 
Vipralambha-seva -
thinking of Krsna in separation.
 
Visnu-
a name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead as the creator and maintainer of the material universes.
 
Visnu-murti--
The form of Visnu.
 
Visnu Purana--See PURANAS.
 
Visnu-tattva--
a plenary portion of the Supreme Lord, a direct expansion of the Lord
 
Visuddha-sattva -
the platform of pure goodness.
 
Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura--
a VAISNAVA spiritual master and commentator on SRIMAD-BHAGAVATAM in the disciplic succession from Lord CAITANYA MAHAPRABHU.
 
Vraja (Vrajabhumi)--See VRNDAVANA.
 
Vrndavana-
Lord KRSNA's most intimate and personal abode, where He engages in loving pastimes with His devotees.
 
Vyasadeva--
the original compiler of the VEDAS and PURANAS, and author of VEDANTA-SUTRA and MAHABHARATA.
 
Vyasa-puja--
the appearance day of the spiritual master, on which he is honored as the representative of VYASADEVA and the direct representative of the Supreme Lord.
 
Vyasasana
(Vyasa - the incarnation who compiled the complete knowledge of the universe into the Vedas, asana- a seat) The seat that the spiritual master or the Vaisnava teacher sits on to speak about Vedanta for the purpose of instructing sincere seekers. It is so named to honor Vyasadeva who compiled the Vedas.
