The Hare Krishna movement distributed free food and Iskcon's peace formula to more than 2000 at the Freedom Square on Saturday.

According to Hare Krishna spokesman His Holiness Maha Vishnu Swami from India, the "food for life" gesture is part of Iskcon peace Initiative for the world.

The movement distributed hot vegetarian biryani to the people in what is called a "serving karma free food" initiative. The food was also distributed by Maha Vishnu and His Holiness Bhakti Caitanya Swami, also from India.

"The whole world should live in peace, without hunger, without poverty ... The greatest mistake of modern civilization is to encroach upon others' property as though it were one's own property and thereby create an unnecessary disturbance of the laws of nature."

"Only one who is Krishna conscious can easily overcome the stringency of the laws of nature and thus become happy and peaceful in the world," Maha Vishnu said.

The Iskcon Peace formula, according to Maha Vishnu, was introduced in India 500 years ago by Lord Sri Caitanya.
